YACHT CHARTER TURKEY:

Locations & Ports:
Bodrum, Fethiye, Göcek, Marmaris, Orhaniye

Sea & Coast:
The classic sailing area in Turkey extends from Finike in the east over the Gulf of Göcek, the Bay of Marmaris in the south, and the Gökova-Gulf near Bodrum to Cesme on the Turkish western coast. Besides the countless picturesque rocky bays with pine forests, reaching the sea, there are modern and well-maintained marinas in Göcek, Marmaris and Bodrum. Excursions to Greek islands used to be spoilt by difficult and expensive entry requirements, which have been slightly loosened. However, you will still have to pay a charge. Because of the offshore winds the southern coast between Finike and Marmaris and especially the Gulf of Fethiye can be also recommended to families or inexperienced crews. The historical sights and landscapes near the coast, such as Ephesus, Halikarnassos, Xanthos, Kaunos and the famous Lycian rocky graves in Myra will lure even the keenest seamen. Navigating in this area is quite easy, as you will mostly sail along the coast. There are only a few shallows, which are clearly marked. All in all, this is a beautiful, nearly perfect sailing area with many bays and the inimitable aura of Turkish traditions and distinct hospitality.

Winds & Weather:
The coastal regions of Turkey have typical Mediterranean climate with hot summer and mild winter. In July and August, air temperatures of over 40 degrees Celsius are possible. The average air temperature is in January 0 degrees Celsius and in August 23 degrees Celsius. The water temperature in summer is 25-28 degrees Celsius. Most rains fall during the winter months. The best time for a sailing holiday is before the high season (from May to June) as well as after the high season (in September and October). Because of the mild air and water temperatures, the eastern Mediterranean can be an ideal sailing area even in late December. In summer the winds blow mostly from the north. In the lee of high mountains strong squalls are to be expected. Strong Meltemi can occur in summer and make it some more difficult to sail along the western coast to the north.
