The Sporades Islands are located in the north-west of the Aegean Sea close to the Greek mainland. This group of islands includes four main islands – Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skiros. The Sporades as well as the Ionian Islands belong to relatively unknown and quit yacht charter areas. This group of islands is famous for its pleasant climate. Because of the wind it is never too hot in this area. The islands have sumptuous vegetation and many beautiful sand beaches. Most visited in July and August, the islands offer pulsating life in the towns and many possibilities of spending leisure time. Apart the main season you will rather find native inhabitants as tourists there. In this period your charter yacht will often be alone in the small harbors and romantic bays. All islands of the Sporades have a very sumptuous nature with expanded pine forests, inviting to long walks and wanderings. Skiathos is surely the most popular island of the Sporades. It is situated 41 sea miles away from the town Volos. The green, idyllic island has over 70 small and large bays. The highest wooded hill is 438 meters high. There are nine smaller islands around Skiathos, two of these, called Tsougries, have secure anchor places for boats and yachts.

Winds & Weather:
The Sporades Islands as well as the Ionian Islands are perfect for family cruises and inexperienced sailors. All islands can be reached within one day. The wind Meltemi is quite weak there, and the sea is quite calm. The main wind direction in this area is north. In the summer months Meltemi blows from northeastern to northwestern directions, but it is not as strong as in the southern Aegean. In July and August it is better to anchor in bays and places which are protected from the north wind.
